The Great white hurricane of 1913. This one of the worst storms to ever hit the great lakes. Waves exceeding 35 foot were present. Can you imagine the impact this would do in modern times. Unlike ocean waves that roll in at 35 feet, these waves broke with water water at 35 feet. I can only imagine the amount of water that must have been pushed from one end of the lake to the other. It's an interesting read if anyone has some time to spare.

Tackle-winter time

Were do you folks store your tackle in the winter? Rubber worms, Gulp??? Plastic crankbaits? Rods? ect.. indoors-outdoors, garage/shed/boat??? Its a little chilly at the new place on the water, wind is more of a deal than in the city as well. Need advice. Thanks Mike.

I have one of these rods in 6' ala Billy Westmoreland(if you don't know who he is you better google).
I am going to put a different reel on it and was looking for a less cumbersome wrap for securing it.
In the past I used nylon reinforced packing tape to secure the reel to the cork and then followed up with tennis racket tape. This tape is pretty thick and builds up fast with a couple of wraps.
Anyone have a slimmer method?

I spent a lot of time working but not much fishing related except a lengthy conversation with Mickey Thomas and Dave Clark.
Mick had the unpleasant experience of falling out of his tree stand while deer hunting. He is now wearing a brace on his left wrist but it is supposed to be off soon. Safety belts, like life preservers are the answer.

Blade baits

I need some advice apparently on blade baits. I've heard they are great when the water gets cold but I've had almost no luck. I've landed 1 pike and 1 little perch, thats all. I've only tried the Heddon Sonar's so far, both rattling and non-rattling, in silver and a chartruese color. I'm slowly jigging them along the bottom, waiting for them to hit bottom before lifting again, and trying them from 10-20 fow along weed edges and what not in small inland lakes. Are...

Hamilton lake ice

The past couple of mornings there has been a thin, thin layer of ice on the channels and bays on Hamilton Lake. Even though it's gone shortly after sun up, it still gets my ice fishing blood goin!!!!

Has anybody read the latest about the Asian carp heading up the Chicago canal? Apparently they believe they have made it past the electric barriers that have been set up. I also read they are planning to poison that canal so they can do maintenance on the electric barriers. Sounded like a they are sounding the panic alarm for a Lake Michigan invasion .

Lake Erie Walleye Growth

Here's a DNR chart for walleye growth on Lake Erie. Thought some of you might find it interesting. Obviously the females grow much larger than the males.
