It's pretty common knowledge amongst the locals where it breaks. It breaks in the same place every time out in front of Crane Creek. Ships move through and create a gap in the ice, then the ice breaks off filling that gap and creating one closer to shore.

One of my friends who was out there today called me at 5 pm to tell me about the ordeal. He said they went out and drilled their holes. Caught 60 walleye between the 10 of them. Next thing you know they couldn't mark their baits anymore on their electronics. That was from the ice moving. He described the masses as looking dumbfounded and not sure what to do. They quickly loaded up and started heading in only to find a 25 foot gap of open water. There were several breaks throughout the ice. They feared that it could happen today, so they brought extra gas for their 4-wheelers. Started heading east over all the mounds of jammed up ice. After about 12 to 16 miles they found a area close to Camp Perry that only had about a 6 foot gap in the ice. They put their planks down and drove across. He mentioned there were several others that followed them to safety. From there they stopped at the nearest local liquor store and loaded up for this evening.

Where I was planning on going in the morning is locked in tight with still over 12 inches of ice. However, the guys I spoke with today said they didn't catch a thing. Only saw one sheephead on a aquaview. So looks like I will be trying to figure out a plan B in the next hour.
