New York's bass season always was and still is from the 3rd Saturday in June through November 30. It was illegal to fish for them outside of the season, even on a catch-and-release basis. On December 1, 2006, it became legal to fish for them, catch-and-release only, during the closed season.

That was the best thing that ever happened to my fishing in the decades that I've been doing it. The 3rd Saturday in June was the most important date on my calendar and the wait for it was interminable. Now I'm barely aware of it, as I don't keep bass, so it has no meaning for me anymore.
