Max,  I wish I could give you some pointers on where to go.  The Clinton River dumps in not far from that launch and there's always some smallmouths hanging by that current.  There is also a long point that comes out right by where you will hit the lake.  Give that a good look over.  The problem with smallmouth unlike largemouth.  They are constantly moving this time of year following the bait fish.  You can venture up and down the shoreline going south looking for some schooling fish.  I hope your not disappointed.  Just remember some of the best bass anglers in the world came there last year and it was extremely tough during the summer.  Winning sacks came from Huron and Erie.  There are some local bait shops that may give you some updated info.  Check out the one on Jefferson Avenue near the Crocker boat launch.  Probably 1 1/2 miles from where your talking about launching.  It's easier to get to the lake from that one too.  You won't have such a long idle out.  Good luck
