It's official! I've cleared the rockbass population out of the St. Joe!
Finally made my way over the St. Joe River near Elkhart. I believe it's called the 6-span stretch. Lucky for me, I had a experienced guide to take me
around the river.
Jack and I had plans to meet at the
ramp at 6:30am. I wasn't sure if it was 6 or 6:30 that I was suppose to meet him there. Plus I wasn't sure how long it would take to get there. I
was surprised that it wasn't that long of a drive. I arrived around 5:30 am, and waited for Jack to show up in the parking lot. In the mean time, I
decided to make a few casts along the bank. Ended up with a couple hits, and one hook up on a spinnerbait. First St.Joe largemouth.
Nothing spectacular, but it was a bass. Thinking to myself this is going to be
like shooting fish in a barrel.
Jack and I started the day heading downstream toward the dam. Our first stop produced some bass. Below is Jack holding one of his largemouth from the day.
We worked our way all the way past the Ferry boat, and toward the dam. The bites were few and far between. So much for shooting the fish in the
barrel.
From that point, Jack decided we would do better
in the current. So we headed back upstream.
Jack was right about the bite being better upstream. We hooked into several smallmouth, few largemouth, and I wiped clean the rockbass/warmouth
population.
We called it a day around noon.
I had a great time with a good friend.
We caught bass on
spinnerbait
couple crankbaits
tubes
senko's
jigs
Thanks again for the great time Jack.
