I was able to get to the lake at a decent time, 8:30 pm, so I was hoping to be able to go back to where I left off on Saturday morning. Still basically a full moon, there was a decent breeze out of the south all day and storms coming the next day so I figured the action should be good.

I got down to the sw corner of the lake and wanted to fish the same few docks. It was basically dark already but I had pretty good aim still trying to skip senkos under the docks. Only problem was I didn't get any bites. I didn't spend too much time trying it but thought maybe if the full moon started shinning bright I would try it later. It was a little cloudy all night so I didn't try again.
After the docks I was right next to a long line of lily pads so I finally took some time fishing them in the dark. I decided to give some fishing time to the Aborgast buzzplug I bought early in the year after recently reading a positive review of it. Its kind of a weedless buzzbait/prop bait combo. It came thru the weeds alright. The biggest problem is the line getting stuck around the big propeller on the cast. And the lack of fish I have caught while using it. I did get a couple hits from smaller fish I believe but no hook ups. I switched to the black frog for the last little bit of pads I fished. Nothing. So I switched out the frog for a black spinnerbait and went to work fishing through the sw bay to the north point of the bay without a bump. Almost 2 hours in when I got to the point so I made a move.
I went back to the ditch area and started at the south end of it. There was only a slight breeze out of the south now and the moon behind some clouds. First cast with the spinnerbait and I had a fish, but it got off, not real big though. I slowly drifted along with the wind so I was able to work the ditch good but it wasn't hot and heavy. After about 15 minutes I hooked and landed a 14 incher. Whew, no skunk tonight. Next I missed a bite that during the hookset my rod just stopped and dug into my gut but then the fish was gone. Tried not to worry about that missed fish to much. Luckily soon after I hooked another solid fish that had me running all over the boat. It jumped once so I knew it had too much fight for its size and was probably a smallmouth. I was right. Landed this nice 18 incher.

My phone has not been focusing very good on the night pictures lately.
I'm seriously getting spoiled by Austin Lake because that fish just felt kind of commonplace once I had it measured. Great battle though.
I'm seriously getting spoiled by Austin Lake because that fish just felt kind of commonplace once I had it measured. Great battle though. It was about another 15 minutes before I landed a 14.5 incher followed soon after by a 15.75 incher. About 15 minutes after that I caught a couple non keepers and missed a strike. I was finally at the northern end of the ditch and probably should have gone in. But instead I changed the buzzplug for a cavitron buzzbait and quickly fished back down the ditch. I had one hit and landed it. A nice 16.5 inch largemouth. When I got to the south end of the ditch I should have gone in. But I turned around and quickly fished the spinnerbait one more time. No hits even so I finally quit at 11:45 pm. 7 fish landed, 5 of them keepers, all caught in the final 1.5 hours of the 3.5 hour trip.
