Got out with little to no prefishing on this body of water. Well, I was there for about an hour Saturday. As we were putting in, there was a weigh in going
on from I believe Old Fort Bassmasters. We talked to a guy and he said they wacked them up around the docks. That is what I had planned on trying so I
decided to check other things out. There was nothing happening on the flats, inside weed edge, or outside weed edge. After an hour Tom said let's go try
somewhere else. So we left the lake.
Tourney day came and we were boat 20. As we were going across the water we noticed all the other boats had disappeared which can mean only one thing. Everyone was up way shallow. We started on a set of docks and a guy comes out and started yelling at us that we couldn't come inside the orange balls more than idle speed. Gene explained to the guy that he was off plane coming in and that he lives on a lake and knows the rules. The guy calmed down and actually wished up good fishing. That would be a jinx. We didn't catch any fish under docks but I did catch a 3-5 casting out away from the docks. That would be our only keeper. We fished fast and covered a bunch of water. We hit the break, threw out from the break, fished the inside edge, hit more dock, but did our best just casting up on the flat. We ended up with only 4 or 5 bass. We had a nice Volgel but it doesn't compare to the Rufus monster. We also caught one short pike.
The weigh in wasn't very good. Two groups blanked who are very good fisherman. There were two limits. One was caught deep and one came from the docks. First place was 11 pounds and then there were two around 9 pound bags. We finish up next week on James.
