Met up with the group at the Truck stop for some breakfast at 6:00. From there it was off to the ramp. The big loader was parked by the ramp taking up
probably 4 parking spaces and the sign says the ramp will be closed from 9/29 until I believe October 10. We blasted off and headed to the big flat. On my
first cast not five feet from the boat, bam. We have our junkfish in the livewell. A 24 inch pike. We began covering water trying to find a willing fish but
with the sun coming out and neither clouds nor wind, I figured it would be a tough bite. This was confirmed as I almost hit a bass with my trolling motor. It
was like it was on a bed. We cast at it for a few minutes and it finally spooked off. After an hour we were off to try some lifts. That's right, not many
boats but plenty of lifts left in the water. No takers though but a few small smallies were biting. Out to the break we went and I threw a critter craw. One
hook up but no landing. To west bay we went to try some more docks and finally a keeper. Just under 3 pounds. Four to go. We finished that section and headed
across the bay to som more docks. First cast I catch a 12 incher but there is a keeper following and wanting to eat. Too late for my partner to cast on it and
it is gone. There are a lot of keepers being seen but they definately aren't eating actively. We try a channel and catch a few shorts. I made the decision
to head to Round. There we hit the few boats and don't catch any keepers. Gene has a nice blow up on a popper but it won't touch a wacky worm. Finally
on a small flat we catch two more keepers. We now have 3 in the well. Lots of boats firing up and moving all around. Back to Clear we went and tried over by
the creek to Lake Anne. No takers there. We fished out to 30 feet of water. Time to try the west bay again so we head to the channel by the marina. Gene loses
a huge fish in the pads. He got it halfway to the boat but it popped off. I cast under a pontoon and call for the net. I have something huge on. Turns out to
be a trout over 5 pounds. Unfortunately neither of us have a trout stamp so I tossed back $50. (Yes it would have won junk fish.) From there we decided to
finish on the big flat again. There we managed two more keepers to finish out a limit. Our five went 9-7 I believe. It was good for 3rd place. 2nd place was 10
something and 1st place was 12 pounds. 1st place only had four fish but they were the right 4. They also left with big bass honors with a pair of twin that
were over 4 each. A man and women watching the weigh in were in disbelief that we caught so many fish. They said they were going to tell their neighbors since
they had never seen so many fish caught out of that lake. The bad thing was it was a tough bite. There were only two limits that I saw.
