I haven't been there, but would like to fish that lake in the near future. Can you tell me what the water clarity is like in that lake?
Congrats on the nice eyes. |

Its a shallow lake. It has a muddy bottom so the water clarity isnt that great. i have only been fishing it for 2 yrs. for saugeyes. there are so many ways
people fish that lake i like using susspending jerkbaits thrown off rocky points or driftings worm harness's across the old tow paths..some people use
minnows and bobbers and some fish the minnows about a foot or 2 off the bottom...find the bait fish and you will find the fish...that how i did it last weekend

Thanks for that bit of information. We have a few members that fish that lake, and hopefully they can provide some more input. They check in throughout the
day.

I know Charles, Aaron, Fishharder, and couple other members have fished this lake. This time of year folks check in every few days since the fishing reports
die down.

Buckeye lake is also a man made lake, It was built as a reservoir for the old canal system. It used to have a really great amusement park on it. It was a great
place to take a date. ....Jim

I had heard about the amusement park. Does anyone know when it shut down?
Also did you know there was an amusement park on the island at Lake Alma in Wellston. I don't know the dates it opened or closed but I have seen pictures. Bill |

Bill, I believe the amusement park at Buckeye shut down in the late 60' or early 70's. People from all over the country came there in the 20's
and 30's even some people from Chicago who you might not want around ie. Dillinger and etc. They had a place to dance called the Crystal Ballroom that was
very well-known, it had a big crystal ball that reflected light all over the people and the walls.. They had one of the biggest roller coasters at the time,
it was made out of wood and went over the lake. The roller coaster collapsed one time and if I remember right 7 people were killed when they fell in the lake.
As Jim said Buckeye was part of the Ohio Erie Canal System. The Canal that goes through Millersport was part of that system. I used to have pictures of
mules dragging barges down the canal and the bridge right in the middle of Millersport used to be a covered bridge. If you go down Deep Cut Road in
Millersport, all that canal there was part of the Ohio Erie Canal and goes towards Baltimore, Ohio. It took workers years, if not decades to make Buckeye
Lake, they had to fight the mosquites, diseases, snakes and animals and parts of it was nothing but a swamp. even when I was a little kid in the late 50's
people went to a woods on the North side of Millersport and came back with sacks full of rattlesnakes. I know my dad told me never go to those woods but
since I'm not afraid of snakes, I of course, had to check it out LOL
