Made it out to Silver lake today with one of my buddies I used to work with. Let me start off by saying the walk was horrible. I don't mean to sound like
a girly-man, but it was bad. There is at least 10 inches of snow on top of 4 inches of slush. My buddy decided to bring his Clam 5600 along which didn't
make the walk any easier. Anyways, we made it to where we wanted to fish and drilled a couple of holes. Only locating a few fish, we decided to go and hunt
them down. We did manage to come across a couple of holes that had a number of fish in them, but the fish were in a bit of a funk. We fished everything from
15 f.o.w. to 6 f.o.w. Most of the fish we caught were at the bottom of the weeds in about 14 f.o.w. I was using an AngolaJones made jig and my buddy was
using a moon glitter jig. We came home with 25 keepers with most of them being in the 7 inch range. We did manage to catch a few bigger gills (around 9
inches) in shallow water. The water where we caught those was only 6 feet deep. I tried to find a concentration of these bigger fish but just couldn't
seem to get on top of them. The excitment for the day was when I drilled a hole in 18 f.o.w. and found a HUGE school of little perch. These little suckers
were acting like they were starving. I would get my bait down to 10 or 11 foot and they would come screaming up and slam it. I caught 20 or so little ones
before giving up on them. The biggest one I caught was around 7 inches. I would have chased after them if they would have had any size. All in all not a bad
day.
