I decided to try and go out today for the first time in 2009. The temperature was only 30 degrees here in Ohio, the wind was light but cold and the lake in some parts still had ice around it and muddy and high. There was ice about 2 foot higher than where the water was, so I imagine the water level was at least 2 foot higher at one time. Instead of going for a finesse bait like I usually do this time of year, I thought I would try an eight inch Zoom Blackberry Lizard and give the bass something worth going after, little as they may.
I had already oiled and greased my reels, wiped down the rods and put on new Fireline, so I was ready to go. I got at the lake and it was cold to say the least, matter of fact, it started snowing. I left my gloves in the truck and forgot my hat so that made it even worse. I threw a few times on the North end of the lake because that is where the water warms the fastest usually but didn't have any luck, not even one strike. I do want to say one thing, it sure was nice to get out of the house and to feel the lure in the water.
I'm ready for spring and can't wait to go again, when a little warmer!
