I had the pleasure of fishing with another one of our members today. Toy boater (Tom) and I met up at Aldrich Lake located in northern Ohio. It was our first
time fishing together, and just like all the other members I've fished with, Tom was no different. Great person, and fun to fish with on the water.
Unfortunately, we both forgot our camera's. Thank God for cell phones, and good photo imaging programs.
We started the day by putting Tom's nice watercraft in. We hoped to break it in with some nice bass today. Below is a photo of Tom's boat before it was backed in the lake.
We started out morning off around 8:30 am. First thing we noticed about this shallow body of water was the massive weed growth. Milfoil weeds were everywhere. Which made it extremely difficult to fish and navigate with the boat. Despite all the weed issues, we soon had our first one in the boat within the first 5 minutes of fishing.
It took us a little while to piece some things together, but once we figured out how to best fish the lake. Things became a lot easier. We started moving to our areas and throwing a anchor over the side. Which helped us keep the boat steady, and improved our chances of working our baits through the weeds. We didn't have a lot of gear with us to fish the weeds, but luckily I had some spinnerbaits in my throw bag I use for shore fishing. It certainly worked for Tom. He had this one below hit the spinnerbait right at the boat.
One thing I did bring was my 9 inch swimbait (affectionately known on the board as "Big Nasty"). I had two hits on it today, with one hook up. This one below came crashing out of the milfoil to eat it.
Tom followed that one up with another good one on the spinnerbait.
I had to leave around 11 am. Tom dropped me off at shore, and went back out to try and catch some more. It certainly was a fun trip. we caught bass on a lipless crankbait, spinnerbait, and a 9 inch floating swimbait.
