Went to the Maggie's stretch again with my son, Brad. Got there around 4:30, a little earlier than a
couple of days ago. I decided to run up to the gravel pit and take a chance that some largie's would be back there in the open so we could use traps and
jerkbaits. They weren't in the open area. We went to the back and under the bridge and fished a little bay back there. Nothing , so we came back out and
started running the West shore throwing Texas rigged senco's with no weight. I caught 3 along there, but they were all short. So Brad was getting a
little down because he was not catching anything.
I told him that I can't make the fish eat his bait (wish I could) he would have to just keep it in the water and work it like I told him to.
This is his first time using a senco. We then went over to the island. We started catching them again!! We must have pulled 6 or 7 of them out of the
shoreline of the island and the East shoreline of the pit. Brad actually caught 3 bass and 1 pike on his senco, man did his adatude ever change.
Now he knew what a bite felt like using a senco. He was
talking up a storm after that.
The best thing
is that he did it himself and I was proud of him for sticking it out until he got a bite. Well we ended up catching 8 Largemouths, 1 Smallmouth, and 2 Pike
out of the gravel pit. The Smallmouth I caught weighed 2 lbs. 7 oz. He was skinny though it measured 18". Everything else was short except for 1 keeper
Largemouth that Brad caught. I have a couple of pics if I can get them off of my phone, I'll edit this post and put them on. The water was 67 - 68
degrees. Great weather, cloudy and a little breeze. We left around 9:00 pm. I will try to post a couple of pics if I can figure out how to get them off of
my phone.
