Last Sunday my dad and I decided to try Hudson for some musky. We had a grad party to go to later in the day, so we needed to be home by 2:00pm. We got a
late start after having to turn back home after 6 miles to get the new sticker to put in my truck to get into the state park. We stopped for had in Lyons, OH
and ended up losing the sticker at the gas station. (DOH!) So after we get there, we follow another guy to the DNR office to get a new sticker. After we get
out stickers, we get talking to the guy. He's really fimiliar with Lake Hudson, and gives us a ton of good info. Where to fish, what to fish, what colors
to use, and where to avoid. (And, of course, We didn't have many of the lures and colors he said, so that'll result in an expensive trip to the tackle
store.
So we get out and start trolling along our favorite spot. After a while of nothing, we move to the other basin and troll near the beach. Once we got farther down the bank (after the beach), we got a nice hit on a small grandma lure in a silver color. The rod was on the driver's side of the boat and we have rules about who's rod is who's when we get a fish (lol, and we enforce them too
) So since my dad was driving the boat, and it was on that side, he gets the
fish. Well, I jump up, grab the rod out of the rod holder, tighten the drag, and set the hook. The fish immediately cleared the water. it looked to be about
3ft long and fairly chunky. I pass the rod to my dad and he starts to fight him. He jumped two more times and got off Dang it! My dad still hasn't caught
a musky (we only started last year).
So we troll some more around there and go back to our favorite spot. On the first pass through there, another hit on the same rod. This time, I was driving. So, my dad grabbed the rod and set the hook, but the musky must not have had it very well, cause we lost him right on the hookset. Dang again.
About another hour of trolling and we had to head in. Overall, it wasn't a bad day since we got two hits, but I would have likes to land one. Oh, sorry no water temps, wind direction, etc.
