Well left wed morning for a few days of fishing. Had some friends in a club fishing up there. So just hitched along. Fished on the lake wed from 12 to 6 hard
to believe but no smallies. Went into the river and caught 2 smallies and 2 pike. No size to any of them. Spent Thurs north of marine city.Caught 2 little
smallies all day. By then was figuring that the fish still had to be spawning . Well friday went out of algonac ramp and headed to the middle canal to the
lake. Went to miles road, 8 mile spent alot of time out there. Nothing 1 follow on jerkbait 1 bite on tube. Headed in to at least feel a bite in some rocks
first cast 2 lb largie. Ended up with 3 in there lost a4 to 5 lber. But at least he tail danced and waved bye before he left!!! Also caught the biggest catfish
of my life. Had a bite set the hook and snaggged the catfish in the belly only thing I could think was i felt him swim over the line and thought it was a
bite.Oh yea had to be all of 20 to 25 lbs.Well I drove 3 houirs to catch largemouth was pretty damn bumbed. But it sure is pretty up there. Guess ill stick with
erie. Jim

James,
Although I did better my trips to St. Clair, I still haven't been able to justify the extra driving time. I would rather stick with Erie also. Thanks for the honest report. It's nice to see a touch of reality once in a while. Often people think all they have to do is show up on St. Clair, and the fish will jump in the boat. Which isn't always the case. |

Thanks for the report! Sounds like some tuff fishin. those smallies can get an attitude problem.
I don't do many erie western basin smallie reports on the inet for my own selfish reasons but
I have caught some within the last week still holding eggs, it's getting better, the males are eatin a blade like candy, but getting very few big gals. |

Sorry for the tough luck. I'd be bumming too. Smallies can be tough to find at times and big waters like that intimidating.

Well figures the boys figured out after I left. I should have cause I knew they were still bedding up there. Everyone headed to the shallows in the bay and the
inside of the weedlines on the west side of the lake. Big stringers weighed in yesterday. Oh well should have trusted my gut instead of going in with
preconcieved ideas of how I was going to fish. Just thought I would let you guys know. Jim

That blows me away. Those fish were on the beds 6 weeks ago up there.
