Met AngolaJones at his house this morning at 4:30, and we headed north to Palmer lake to fish the Northern Christian Bassmasters open tourney. It was a
team tourney, with a 5 fish limit. Brad had pre fished it and said that he was on some keepers. I had never been on the lake before, but I was excited to get
out and hopefully have a good day. Launch time was at 6:00 am and after a prayer at the ramp, we headed out into dirty water. Brad started off by throwing a
buzzbait and I started off by throwing a Pop-R. We threw these for about 10 mins and switched over when we got no takers. I put on a Manns -1 and Brad started
throwing a senko. We continued down the shore without hook ups when we came up to Brads spot that he said was holding keeper fish. And boy was it. We came
up to this spot at around 6:20 I'd say, throwing the same lures we had been. I had caught a few small fish with the crank, and Brad had switched over to a
chatterbait. In a matter of 15 mins, we had our limit of fish, with a 3 1/2 lber thrown in. We looked at the clock on his fish finder and it said 6:39 am!!
This was the fastest I've ever had a limit, and it felt good to be able to just fish and relax. The fish continued biting like this at this spot for about
45 more mins, and then seemed to shut off. Brad decided to head to another spot that he had found that was holding keepers. It was a flat with a ton of weeds
on it, in about 6 feet of water. We moved around the flat with Brad catching a few smaller fish, and decided to move in shallow and start flipping docks and
pontoons. I continued to throw out the "deeper" side while Brad flipped around the pontoons, but it was to no avail. The fish had started to move
up under the shade, and Brad caught 2 or 3 more keepers but they were no help as they were smaller than what we already had. We fished shallow water for about
1 1/2-2 hrs when Brad said he wanted to finish the day where we started. We ran back to that spot, and the fish were there again. By this time it was 12:45,
and weigh in was at 2:00 pm. Brad caught 2 quick fish on a chatterbait, and then nothing for about 1/2 an hour. Then the fish started going nuts again.
There was a stretch of 5 or 6 casts and we would have had probably 4 more keepers. It was just awsome. We headed in early so Brad could cull, and we needed
every ounce we could get. Two other teams had limits, and had some really nice fish. Andy and Jeramiah Lee won 1st place with around 13 lbs. Andy had a bass
that went 4.11lbs. Brad and I were 2nd with around 11 lbs, and our big fish went 3.69 lbs. Mike and Zach Burdette were 3rd with around 10.5 lbs and Mike had
big bass with a 4.45 lber! I was impressed with the weigh in, but Brad said it wasn't that great. I would love to see what it's like when that lake
is really on. All in all, we caught around 20 keepers, and we caught them on crankbaits, chatterbaits, senkos and flukes. Water we caught most of our fish was
75 degrees and dirty with visibility at around 2 feet. We really didn't catch that many short fish. Maybe 35 fish total. I definitly want to hit this
lake again, when it's "on"!
Brad definatly did an awsome
job of putting us on decent fish. If it wasn't for him we wouldn't have had chance.
