Had to rush around after my baseball game to make it to the bait store. We made it to Maumee Tackle with 20 minutes to spare before they closed
Headed out to Wauseon, to see if the crappie were still up close.
Immediatlely we started to catch them. None of them were big, (7-9 inches) but they kept us busy for a while. They started to slow down, so we tried some different things. We tried minnows under slip bobbers set around 8-10 feet deep. We really didnt care what bit, but we were hoping for a walleye or saugeye. We caught a few more crappies this way, and I caught a very nice perch around 11 inches.
My dad tried the same thing and hooked into a monster. It was making big runs and almost spooled my dads reel
. He had to baby it because we had light crappie line. After about a 10 minute
fight my dad pulls up a big channel cat that we estimated at 12 pounds.
We stayed a while after dark, but only caught one crappie. That brought the crappie total to 15.
We also caught a nice 7 inch gill for a nice mixed bag.
*All fish were released*
