I fished out of Catawba and had a great day of fishing!
I won't mention numbers because they're kinda unbelievable
With a breezy SW wind blowing I didn't venture too far from shore,
fished some rocks in 16 to 20 ft of water for smallies.
I couldn't catch a big one but I caught 1 right after another for quite
awhile early this morning. I caught a few on a blade bait but as the wind
picked up I switched to plastic and found a poor boys goby rigged
carolina style is what they wanted.
That was one of my last spots near shore that was still producing some
decent fish, I think they've gone deep?
Time to pick on largies or go for wet bumpy rides.
On the way in to the ramp I was passing a minnow boat that was docked
and the guy was cleaning the tanks, throwing the dead minnows overboard,
as I'm idling by, I see a swirl then another, it didn't take a third, off went the
key, I picked up a rod with a white tube rigged on it and started picking off largies,
I caught so many that I started feeling a little guilty about how easy it was...
but that feeling only lasted a second... then it was back to killin largies!
It was like someone shut off a key when that guy stopped dumping minnows,
within minutes the bite completely stopped.
The guy on the boat told me that the bass come every day, "they know when feeding
time is" he said. Now I do too, might save a bad day!
Fished by myself today so I didn't take many pics, here's one of a smallie that was the
size of most I caught today.
