Tipsico Lake is hidden in the back country roads of Michigan. RangerTim and I soon found this out while traveling to the lake. The paved road we took on the
way soon turned into a mud, ditch, pothole packed nightmare. There was no where to turn the boat around, so we were stuck going anywhere from 2 to 5 mph all
the way to the ramp. I can honestly say I've never been on worse road in my life! I decided to take a quick photo out the window as Tim and I putted
along after leaving the lake. This is far from the worse the road actually was. There were some potholes that you could lose a small child in.
The lake was beautiful and very scenic to look at. The water had a brackish tint to it with visibility of about 3 feet. Lots of Millfoil weeds on the flats out to about 10 feet, and then it was baron of vegetation deeper than that. Below is a photo of what the lake looked like.
We worked on top and on the edge pretty much the whole time we were there. There was no doubt that the fish were in a funk with the high pressure system that had moved in. After a couple Pike, we finally put a little something together. We started to catch a few on the outside weed edges. These fish were buried in the outer weed edges holding tight to the bottom. Once again this week, the slime was horendous in sticking to our lures. Extremely difficult to work baits through it. Below are some photos of the fish that we were so happy to get on this tough day. They were chunks, and evidence that the lake had good fish in it. I doubt we will be back until that aweful road is fixed.
