Unless something changes quickly my hunting season is going to be over soon. It's hard to attract shorebirds when there is no shore. The pace yesterday was
less than one bird shot per hour. When I'm not seeing many birds it is harder to stay focused. I am more fatigued and my mind tends to wander to other
things. I'm not expecting the flush when it comes. I was consistently behind and three of my five birds were killed with the second barrel. I have been
wishing for drought but I think a nice wildfire would be even better.
Otherwise it was a very nice day. I could not have asked for better weather. Warm and sunny with enough breeze to keep me from getting hot. Hopefully in the next few weeks the grass will start to die off and some new birds will pass through and decide to stay.
I shot a twenty-eight gauge gun today. For as much walking as I did it was a good choice. It is the lightest gun I own.
The horses and the cows are free to get in the water whenever they want. I guess the gators aren't a problem.
You know, there's nothing to keep me from throwing a couple of rods in the boat too. As you can imagine there are bass in this little 500 acre pond.
My final tally was five birds. Certainly I have come home with fewer but it's been over a decade since I've done it on just my second hunt of the season.
