We decided to do a quick zip around the lake with the trolling motor while fishing. We zigzagged back and forth across the flats and drop offs. Our best fish producing areas were the 4 to 10 foot range.
Within the first 5 to 10 minutes of fishing, I had our first one on for the day. This nice smallmouth bit in about 7 foot of water.
We ended up going through some dry stretches, and then very good stretches of the lake with bites. We chucked around jerkbaits, spinnerbaits, lipless crank baits, blades, and jigs. Although Tim didn't get the first fish of the day, he got the biggest one we had at 4 lbs. 3 ounces. It came out of a nice pile of coontail weeds.
There seemed to be a nice mix of largemouth and smallmouth when we found the hot bite areas. Below is another photo of a largemouth that came in 6 foot of water. We lost another one that was a little bigger right at the boat on the very next cast.
All in all, it wasn't a bad day to be on the lake. Beautiful weather, and some decent tugs on the line.
