okay im pretty bored so i thought i would post pics of the gm 4l60e transmission i just rebuilt .. yeah remember i get pretty bored in the winter months lol
anywhoo . first this came out of a 95 blazer 4x4 he complained it had no reverse and slipped in first gear
so he yanked the trans out and dropped it off at my garage ...

so i took the tranny apart and found what i suspected a busted sun shell and a whiped out low reverse clutch

burnt low reverse clutch's

and the sheered off sun shell very common in the 700r4/4l60e

this one i had laying around from a trans i took out of a Z28 i had
but for 65 bucks you can buy a * updated * sun shell so the guy chose that instead of my free stocker i had laying around
so after cleaning out the case stoped by D&E transission and picked up the clutch steal and gasket set $118

got my old bucket and the rim to make a holding fixture because i hate working on transmissions while its sitting on its side

so with a pile of parts sitting on the floor and the customer just staring at it i proceede to over haul

first the parking prawl and the low reverse clutch

the output shaft new updated sun shell
then i re clutched the reverse input drum and over hauld the piston . made sure i had my .040 -.076" clearance which i had .060 "
then just reclutched the 3-4 drum
remember he only had a problem in reverse and 1st
added a new 2-4 shift band $15
i then added the drums after air checking and measureing the clearances to a "T"

a new pump seal and nylon o rings on the input shaft . new o rings on the pump and the 2-4 shift servo
total time was roughly 6 hrs if you dont count the smoke and the " i just dont have motovation " brakes
relatively cheap to over haul them yourself . i was talking to the guy if he wanted to over clutch and add a shift kit , so the thing so it has a nasty shift lol but the stock stuff was fine for him lol oh well got another one to do sitting in the back of my truck .. ugg i think i ll just drink a beer or 14 for now lol
i got lazy and didnt take pics of putting the clutches in just because i didnt want to get atf all over my cell phone lol
till next time
