I couldn't stand it anymore. I had to get out. First time out this year and what a beautiful day it was!! I also got to play with my new Humminbird 788ci GPS Combo. I love it. Such a great picture on it. So anyway, I went to the St. Joe River at Maggie's Launch at about 10:30. It was 65 degrees today. Calm winds out of the North, a perfect day. The water temp was 47 most everywhere. Tried a back bay off of a channel first and got nothing. The water had a bunch of dead moss looking stuff floating all around, made it hard to fish. Left there and ran up river to the gravel pit. Fished around there for about an hour without a bite. Then started working the Northeast side of the pit, throwing a gold/black X-Rap and my first fish of 2010 smacked it!!
A smallmouth to boot. Never thought my first one was going to be a smallmouth. It weighed 1 lb. 3 oz. Not 10 minutes later another pounding of my X-Rap took place. A better fish by the way it was pulling, guess what, another smallmouth!!
I was PUMPED!!!! This one weighed 2 lbs. 3 oz. After that I snagged a carp, but luckily it pulled free. Then after that back out in the river a little ways another, yes another smallie it my bait but pulled loose. All in all not a bad day at all. 3 bites, 2 keepers, total 3 lbs. 6 oz. Pulled the boat out around 2:45 pm. Sorry, no pictures. Was so excited about getting out I forgot it. Won't happen again.
