My 3 year old daughter called me yesterday to ask me if we could go fishing. So like any good father I ditched work early and went home to get her and the boat. She wanted to catch dinner and I thought we would have a chance because she wants to keep any size fish no matter how small. We picked up some worms and wax worms and went to Austin Lake. Tried by the inlets on the north side of the lake first. I saw plenty of nice bass and musky cruising around but not a lot of panfish. Couldn't get lucky enough to be surprised by a bigger fish on her little pink barbie pole. We moved to the ditch that runs along the NE corner of the lake next. As we pulled up to it I could see a large school of very small panfish but still couldn't get a bite. By now my daughter had feed the wax worms to all the fish we were seeing in the last spot so I was using some very lazy panfish worms. After about another 30 minutes she was ready to go in but still wanted to eat fish for dinner so I had to hang my head in shame and called my wife to go to the store and pick up some fish. Oh well, left work early, weather was great, boat worked fine and enjoyed my daughters enthusiasm to go fishing.
