I have the luxury of living only about 300 feet from the boat ramp on the Goshen Pond, so when I need a little fishing time its not hard to just throw the boat in and go. The fishable area of the Goshen impoundment is probably a couple 150 acres, and there are some nice bass to be had. I wouldnt say that the fishing is exceptional, but you can always count on a couple of bites (smallies and largies).
I threw the boat in at about 7am this morning and fished for a couple of hours. It was overcast and slightly breezy, so I threw reaction baits the entire morning to capitalize on the extended early morning action. The first spot I fished is one of my honey holes. Its a swing bank off the river channel with a nice rock pile that elavates into some thick slop. I decided to throw some topwater baits around the edge of the slop, but didnt have any takers. After a couple of presentation changes I threw some cranks pararell to the river bank a caught a couple of dinks. After about ten minutes I pulled up the trolling motor and just as I was about to turn on the big motor, a blow up occured within casting distance. I threw a frog at it, and landed a 2 pounder. I went to my next spot and spent the rest of my time there. The fish were very active and I managed 5 more keepers and some dinkys on topwater baits and spinner baits around woody habitat. The fish were very aggresively pounding the topwaters. It was a rush! My 2 best were probably about 2.5 pounds each.
I would like to promote the Goshen Pond to other anglers. It can be very tough and muddies up quickly following heavy rains, but is definitely worth a shot if you like river fishing.
