Finally! I'll explain in a minute. After a couple weekends of catching fish, but all dinks, I meet up with my buddy to try Austin. He had fished it Friday night and did pretty good just off a point leading into the SW bay. I started us on the south shore but we worked across the lake to the area he fished. He picked up a couple little fish along the way but that spot was definetly better. He was doing well on a smithwick rouge as I tried a topwater and a drop shot. He hooked something good but after a couple minutes it was obviously not a bass or a musky. Finally it came up and it was a carp he snagged in the back that was nearly 10 pounds. Eventually I caught one on the drop shot then switched to my usual x-rap. He was still out fishing me, but I had a little bass on my jerkbait and a much better bass was trying to steal it from him but failed. I fumbled to cast out a senko while fighting my fish but probably cast to far out. As I was unhooking my fish I did manage to catch another small bass on the senko that was trying to pull my rod out from between my legs. Couldn't get the big one so we worked west into the bay fishing our usual way. Finally I did catch a keeper on the jerkbait that was 16.5 inches and 2lbs 2oz. I ended the short morning with big bass honors but probably only had 5 bass to his 7 or 8 plus his carp and he lost a bass that might have just beaten me. There, not a dink for once.

The weather was too perfect and a small front coming that might bring storms so I ditched work a bit early to squeeze another hour in of fishing. The wind had picked up out of the SW and was blowing across the point we had luck at this morning. I decided to fish my x-rap and a strike king king shad that hasn't been worth much as of yet. First quick drift with the wind using the x-rap gave me 3 small crappie. Turned around and tried casting the king shad towards the wind. After about 5 cast I felt a few ticks and my rod got real heavy. Carefully played the bass as my boat drifted quickly in the wind out away from the point. He wasn't hooked great and was splashing and digging into the weeds but I was able to net my biggest largemouth of the year, 20 inches and 3lbs 12oz (FINALLY, thats what it was really for). Looked like a spawned out female but definetly gave me some confidence in the lure and my game plan. No other fish there though so I went deeper into the bay like this morning and was able to land one more small bass on the king shad before I left just as a light rain started. Looked like a weekly tournament was getting ready to go out as I came in.
