Not counting when I was at my uncle's a few weeks ago I don't know how long it's been since I last fished in freshwater. Today I took the kayak out on the lake for the first time to see if it works as well there as it did in the salt. It did. The best part was not having to rinse everything off when I got home.
At 7:00 there was a little breeze. I thought that would help the fishing since the sky was clear. Hot, glassy water and bright skies don't usually translate into great fishing for me.

By 7:20 the breeze was gone. I would not feel it again the rest of the morning.

This was the third of a set of triplets I caught to start the day off. At this point I was fishing lily pads along the shoreline.

The water has dropped since the last time I was here. There was no shortage of cover in the form of vegetation on the surface, under the surface, and above the surface.

This guy didn't seem the least bit concerned about me. Perhaps he should be concerned about my two friends, Mr. Smith & Mr. Wesson. It took some effort but eventually I was able to run him off.

Finally a few clouds were starting to develop at 10:00 but by then I was doing more scouting than fishing.

I'm guessing this qualifies as a "bucketmouth".

I have a scale but I rarely carry it. You'll have to guess the weight. The length is 26".

The new rod holder in the front allowed me to carry a third rod. I could have left the other rods at the house. I threw a soft jerkbait for a while and a spinnerbait for a few minutes but every fish was caught one or the other of two topwater lures I threw on one rod.
