I left the house in a rain and picked up Dan. The rain would stop by the time we got to the launch and things looked pretty good for the start.
We were the 11th boat out of 57 to fish today. We were going to start in the lower sections so we just hung out till all the wakes subsided then started fishing.
We did nothing, absolutely nothing for the first 3 hours and had moved continually upriver. Dan finally found a jig/pork color combo that put dinks in the boat but no keepers. I found that I needed to be in a walleye T after switching to cranks. I limited out on them with the largest being 17". They were all returned to the water.
We had one of our own pass by us and said he had 5 and that was the best we heard and it stayed that way.
I will let him tell his own story but he finished as he predicted! He caught all their fish in the first 2 hrs. and nothing in the remaining 6 hrs.
A lot of guys braved the low water trip to downtown Elkhart and they caught a few fish but I wasn't going to risk it.
With all these excuses in place, Dan and I never caught a keeper. We were not thinking along with the fish.
I believe I remember that the winners had 9.26, second and third were in the 8's, and then dropped to 5's.
It was a tough day for everyone and will be the last 8 hr. T I will ever fish!
