Lake Erie Backwater 10-23-11
Today’s trip was to a familiar backwater area. The water level on the lake had come back up, so it was safe to get back into the honey hole. I met Bruce at the ramp around 8 am. It was still pretty cold in the morning with the brisk air temperature of 37 degrees. The water surface temperature was running 49 degrees.
Bruce was so kind to be the guide today. He brought along his Stratos Bass boat with the Evenrude E-tech motor. All I had to do was cast and catch fish. I must say it’s nice having good friends.
This particular back water area has water depth that ranges from 2 to 15 feet. Our most productive water during the course of the day was on the 7 to 8 foot break. I think we both knew it was going to be a good day when the first couple casts resulted in two fish in the boat. From that point on we hammered them on just about everything we tossed out. There were certain areas that held more fish, and we really concentrated on them the most. Below is a photo of one of the first fish of the morning.

We caught a lot of quality bass. There weren’t any huge monsters. The 3 lb. 12 oz. bass was our big bass of the day. I won’t complain about that any time. Most were in the 1 ½ to 2 ½ lb. range.

Here’s couple more quality fish that Bruce caught.

It seemed like the two of us fishing different lures at the same time sure increased the numbers of bass in the boat. We both decided to take a photo of the 100th fish of the day. The joke was it probably would be a small one. Well, wouldn’t you know, it was. Lol

Here’s the total tally for the day when we quit around 2:30 pm.
