season opened back up today so I was probably the only one at the lake
hunting snipe. I got to the landing around 8:30 and found the parking
lot full. I was surprised by how many trailers I saw. The water is very
low so someone has to back a truck well out into the water to launch a
boat. I heard a few shots as I headed toward the first area I was going
to hunt but most of the morning flight was already over.

After picking up two birds out on the open flats of the main lake I headed for a more remote section. I was surprised that I didn't flush any birds between the two areas. Last Saturday I picked up four birds from one stretch of shoreline so I decided to start there. I decided I would walk the same direction first again today and then I would go the other direction. After seeing the fewest birds I've seen yet this year out on the main lake flats and none while walking to the second area I wasn't too optimistic about ending up with a full game bag.

It didn't seem possible but somehow I lucked into my last six birds on that first stretch of shoreline. I'm looking forward to going back out to the lake tomorrow after church. It will be the first time my puppy gets to go hunting. I don't really expect to shoot anything but hopefully I will get some ideas of things I need to work on with Jackson.
