ust as soon as we got home from church today we were changing clothes and putting on waders. I had to make room in my truck for three instead of the usual one person. I remembered to grab a second life vest and then all of my gear that usually rides up front with me got piled in the boat. I told my wife I was going to the easiest flat to walk. It has firm ground and short, sparse grass. The only reason she agreed to go is because she was worried about her baby but as long as she was willing to go I didn't really care what the reason was. Not only did she go with us, she also gave Jackson a bath as soon as we got home while I was unloading and cleaning everything else up.We kept Jackson on the leash and they walked 12-20 yards behind me until I knocked down a bird. As soon as the first bird was on the ground Janet cut him lose. After I had the bird in my hand we removed his harness and let him go. I was thinking he would get too far out front but he didn't. He stayed very close, like less than fifty yards and usually more like 25-30 yards. Truthfully that was as far out as I wanted him.
I took one last picture right after picking him up out of the boat and setting him down in the water. I thought I should do that because after hitting that mud he might never look the same again.
